The door in modern washing machines closes automatically when you start the washing program or any other operation (drain, spin). There are situations when the automation fails – in particular, after the completion of the wash cycle, the door does not open. Consider the main reasons why this can happen and how to fix the current problem.
First of all, you need to understand that a locked door cannot be opened as a result of a program failure or due to a breakdown of the washer itself. In some cases, the problem is solved independently, in others – you will need to contact the service center.
The door is blocked in the washing machine – a normal situation
Most automatic washing machines do not immediately unlock the hatch after the end of the wash. To fully unlock in such cases, you need to wait 1-5 minutes and the unit will open the hatch.
In such models, as a rule, an audible signal is heard, announcing the end of the wash and the opening of the door. If, after the sound alert, the door did not open, and water remained in the drum, then more serious problems should be looked for.
To get started, do the following:
- Switch off the power to the unit. Quite often, electrical appliances are “naughty” due to power surges. Turn off the machine from the 220V network, wait a few minutes and turn it on again. During this time, the device will reboot and unlock the sunroof.
- If there is water left in the drum, the device will not unlock the door until you drain it. To do this, you need to open the drain hatch, which is located at the bottom of the case. If, after rebooting and draining the water, the hatch does not unlock, you will have to open the door in an emergency.
Emergency hatch opening
Emergency ways to open the hatch are simple, but effective, and do not lead to damage to the unit.
- Starting a new washing program.
When the machine has stopped with no water inside, but the door has not opened, try running a new wash, rinse or drain cycle. When restarted, the door should unlock and lock again. Don’t miss the click and open the hatch and cancel the program. - Rope for emergency opening of the hatch.
Most washing machines are equipped with an emergency release cable, which is located next to the drain hole under a plastic cover. It has a bright color. Pulling on it will open the door.
- Use of rope, and wire.
In the absence of a cable, an ordinary rope or wire will help open the hatch. The main thing is that the device can fit into the hole in the lock on the door.
The rope must be led behind a closed hatch in the area of the castle so that the free ends are located on the side opposite the castle. Next, you need to pull the ends sideways, moving parallel to the cover. The loop that forms on the rope will catch on the tongue on the lock, pull it and open the hatch.
- Removing the cover of the washing machine.
If you remove the top cover of the machine by carefully unscrewing the two bolts in the body, you will get access to the lock. Press the lock hook and the hatch will unlock.
- The door lock device is out of order.
If the hatch-blocking device is broken, then no repair will help. In this case, you will have to disassemble the machine and buy new parts. First, the entire door, hinges, and hook are removed. New mechanisms are bought and installed instead of the old ones. The reason for the failure of the UBL is overheating or jamming.
If you tried all 5 methods, but the hatch did not open, then it is advisable to contact the appliance service so that a professional technician can fix the problem without damaging the washing unit.
