The child has bruises under the eyes. What to do?

Parents have a lot of worries and reasons for anxiety – even the healthiest children periodically get sick. Mothers always have some cause for concern. For example, a child has bruises under his eyes. Almost all parents start to panic – why does the child have bruises under the eyes? And those parents who noticed these bruises in time and went to the doctor are right – they often indicate health problems in children, sometimes very serious. And if you do not understand why this is happening, there can be serious problems.

And this is not surprising, because children’s skin is a very reliable indicator of the general condition of the body. The skin of children is very sensitive to the slightest change in the internal environment of the child’s body. Attentive parents will immediately notice an alarming signal that something is wrong with their child. Moreover, the most striking sign of trouble is the blue discoloration of the skin under the eyes. In most cases, it is due to thinning of the skin in this area, as a result of which the blood vessels begin to show through. Less common, but it still sometimes happens:  bruises are a result of hemorrhage.

The first thing to do is to determine the cause of the bruising. Of course, parents will not be able to find these reasons on their own – you need to ask for help from a pediatrician. However, all parents should know the main reasons that can lead to the occurrence of bruises under the eyes in children. This is what we will tell you about.

Genetic factor

Mother’s eyes, father’s nose … Genetics is a great force. As the saying goes, you can’t erase genes with an eraser. However, unfortunately, the child receives from the parents not only external data, but also the predisposition of the body, including the tendency to the appearance of bruises under the eyes. If parents have thin skin and closely spaced vessels, then children may have exactly the same picture.

This case does not require any treatment, since it does not indicate the presence of any disease. However, the child should systematically receive courses of general strengthening therapy, vitamin therapy, observe the correct daily regimen and eat healthy food. On the whole, like any other child should.

Increased fatigue of the child

In the case of appearing bruises under the eyes in school-age children, parents may assume that the child is very tired at school. And this is not surprising – the modern school curriculum is strikingly different from the one we studied. The child is very tired not only in the classroom at school but at home there is also little time for a good rest – the amount of homework can really amaze.

In addition, even if the child has some free time, he most often spends it  not doing some sports but watching TV and playing computer games. As you can imagine, such a lifestyle is a serious test for an immature fragile child’s body. And first of all, such a lifestyle affects the condition of the child’s skin – it becomes dry, becomes thinner, the blood vessels begin to shine through. First of all, it becomes noticeable under the eyes – dark circles appear.

And the first thing to do is to properly organize the child’s day regimen. Of course, it is impossible to free children from school. But at least his daily routine and the child’s rest are quite within the power of parents to normalize. Strictly follow this rule – after the child has finished homework, take care of his walk. In addition, in no case should we forget about sports – at least ordinary exercises should become an integral part of a child’s life.

On weekends, try to go for walks with your child, and ideally take him somewhere out of town – to the river or to the forest. Play various outdoor games with your child – for sure he will do it with great pleasure. Such games improve blood circulation, actively saturate all tissues with oxygen, and nourish them. Soon enough, not only the bruises under the eyes will disappear, but the general condition of the body will improve significantly.

Poor nutrition

Unfortunately, in our time it is very difficult to find a child who eats only healthy food. And this is not surprising – unhealthy products are found in a child’s diet: gums, chips, carbonated drinks. Moreover, parents often fail to control this issue – after all, even in the school cafeteria, such “delicacies” are sold in large quantities.

And the parents themselves often buy him the same chips and coca cola’s. Mothers themselves follow their own laziness very often – for example, they cook semi-finished products instead of cooking healthy dishes. And fruits and vegetables do not appear on our tables very often, unfortunately.

In order for vegetables to benefit the child’s body, they must be fresh and not thermally processed. Unfortunately, vegetables lose their beneficial properties very quickly – even vegetable salads begin to lose vitamins after about 20 minutes. By the way, this is why it is necessary to cook the salad just before serving it.

Very often, children refuse to eat such healthy, but completely tasteless vegetables in their opinion. But there is a way out of this situation – cook food with your child, try to interest him. And the most common vegetables can become a very interesting dish. For example, from a circle of zucchini you will get a man’s head, from peas – eyes, from sweet pepper – a nose and a mouth, and from carrots – hair. Surely the child will eat such a culinary masterpiece with great pleasure.

The child has bruises under the eyes. What to do?

In the autumn-spring period, it is recommended to give the child a course of multivitamins. You should not buy the first vitamins you find at the pharmacy, even if they are widely advertised. It is much wiser to talk to a pediatrician, who will select the drug in accordance with the individual characteristics of your child’s body.

Violation of the daily routine

In order for the children’s body to function properly, a sufficient amount of sleep is necessary. If for some reason the child sleeps little, the compensatory mechanisms of the body will begin to rapidly deplete. And the very first sign of overwork will be the appearance of bruises under the eyes.

And in order for these bruises to disappear, it is necessary to normalize the child’s sleep. A child under 10 years old should sleep at least 9 hours a day. Therefore, be sure to monitor the duration of sleep – if necessary, put your child to bed in the daytime. Please note that not only the duration of sleep is very important, but also its quality. In order for the child’s sleep to be calm, in no case should any active games be allowed before bedtime. Yes, and a computer with a TV before bedtime must be excluded.

Iron-deficiency anemia

A problem like iron deficiency anemia is familiar to many parents. And first of all, the lack of iron radically affects the condition of children’s skin. In particular, the same notorious bruises appear under the eyes. Moreover, these bruises appear even before the blood test changes very much. That is why it is necessary to conduct a general blood test immediately after the appearance of bruises under the eyes of a child.

But even if the blood test did not reveal a decrease in hemoglobin, parents still need to be especially careful for some time – perhaps anemia will occur a little later. It often happens that some time after the onset of the disease, the child’s body compensates for the lack of iron from its reserves. And for a while, blood tests will not display pathology. However, this will not last long – a maximum of several months.

Therefore, immediately after the appearance of bruises under the eyes, parents should adjust the child’s menu. Include in it foods containing a large amount of iron – liver, buckwheat, pomegranate juice, apples. And after a month, it is imperative to repeat the general blood test. There will be no harm from such measures to the child’s body, even if there is no iron deficiency anemia.

Helminthiasis

In some cases, the cause of bruising under the eyes in a child is the presence of helminths in the body. Or, to put it simply, worms. The presence of worms has a very negative effect on the health of the child – the baby has to share his food with those parasites that live in his intestines. And even that small amount of vitamins and nutrients that remain for the child is absorbed very poorly. In addition, those toxins that are released as a result of the vital activity of worms adversely affect the child’s body. In this case, in addition to bruises under the eyes, the child most often complains of pain in the navel.

In order to accurately diagnose the disease, the doctor will prescribe a smear for enterobiasis and an analysis of feces for eggs of worms. If necessary, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate treatment for the child. Moreover,  treatment for worms should be carried out by all family members. Also, do not forget about pets – contact your veterinarian. Otherwise, it is unlikely that the desired effect will be achieved.

Trauma

In some cases, bruises under the eyes of a child are the result of physical impact – either as a result of a blow or as a result of a fracture of the bones of the nose.

In order to eliminate bruises resulting from physical impact, parents should apply ice to the affected area during the first minutes after the injury. Any means at hand will do – a pack of frozen vegetables, ice cream.

After that, it is worth contacting a traumatologist. He will examine the child to make sure the child is not seriously injured. After that, he will prescribe any ointment that will accelerate the resorption of the hematoma. It is not worth choosing any medicines on your own, because not all medicines are suitable for treating children.

As you can see, there are many reasons why children may have bruises under the eyes. Therefore, do not be lazy and visit a pediatrician. You don’t want to risk the most precious thing – the health of your child, do you? And ignoring bruises under the eyes can turn into very serious complications. Be careful!
