Tanning in a solarium – the pros and cons of a fashionable procedure

Tanning in a solarium - the pros and cons of a fashionable procedure

Bronze, chocolate, golden, peach … Sunburn has long become an integral part of the image of a healthy, beautiful, happy and contented person. Of course, it is impossible to keep a tan acquired under the rays of the summer sun for a whole year. But if you want to?! Therefore, we go to a beauty salon and prolong the life of our enthusiastic tanning in the solarium.

By the way, tanning in a solarium is the only way to prepare your skin before traveling to warm places for those who quickly get sunburn. This allows you to spend your vacation at sea without panic, fear of losing attractiveness under the aggressive South sun, without temperature and lotions on burnt skin areas. But is this the only benefit of a tanning bed?

What are the positive and negative sides of this method of tanning? Let’s figure it out.

The benefits of a solarium

There are a lot of arguments in favor of tanning in a solarium, which, of course, will flatter artificial sun lovers.

 Firstly, you will tan the way you like (like a chocolate bar, only to a slight golden color)

Ultraviolet lamps in a tanning salon balance out the supply of rays A and B, completely eliminating the presence of gamma rays C, which have a detrimental effect on skin cells. Therefore, there is no reason to worry about possible skin diseases and neoplasms, provided that you rarely visit the solarium and only moderate tanning.

Radiation B activates the production of vitamin D3, which is responsible for the normalization of phosphorus-calcium metabolism in the human body, which helps to strengthen muscles and bone tissue, inhibits the growth of cancer cells, increases mental and physical performance, improves mood and fights depression.

Ultraviolet A radiation has a beneficial effect on people who already have skin diseases such as acne, psoriasis, fungal infections. But do not forget that in these cases it is necessary to consult a doctor before visiting the solarium. Also, a visit to the solarium is recommended for people with respiratory diseases, but, again, after consulting a doctor.

Under the influence of sunlight and after tanning in a solarium, cells of the human body begin to secrete endorphins – hormones of happiness and joy. Therefore, after a tanning session, a person is in exactly this state – pacification, complacency and contentment with life. Also, ultraviolet rays help to strengthen immunity, which is especially important during the period of all kinds of acute respiratory infections, acute respiratory viral infections and common colds.

Solarium harm

It would be unfair to point out all the positive aspects of tanning in a solarium and say nothing about the potential dangers of such procedures. But each medal, as you know, has two sides. So that’s the flip side of this medal.

Sunburn (darkening of the skin under the sun’s rays) is nothing more than a protective reaction of the skin to these same rays. And if the skin protects itself, it means that it is not so good under the sun. And if under the “real” sun we can afford to stay a little longer, then with a solarium such idea will not work. A solarium is not a pleasure, but a procedure. Therefore, it is necessary to perceive a visit to a solarium in this way.

The abuse of artificial sun is harmful. Visiting the tanning salon too often worsens the condition of the skin, making it flabby and dry and accelerating the aging process. In addition, there is a risk of developing and developing skin cancer caused by a weakening of the skin’s ability to produce the protective pigment melanin.

In addition to the possible harm to health, artificial sun is simply contraindicated for many people, and sometimes is even strongly discouraged. So, for example, you should not sunbathe in a solarium, or you need to reduce the number of these procedures to a minimum if:

your skin belongs to the first or second phototype: it is very light, and under the sun it becomes not brown , but a red or pink color;

you have a large number of moles or age spots on your body;

you suffer from a chronic illness in the acute stage of a seasonal cold;

you have one of the following ailments: asthma, oncology, hypertension, heart disease, gynecological disease;

you have recently undergone any plastic surgery;

you have critical days.

In addition to health restrictions, pay attention to the technical aspects of the tanning salon you visit, which can affect the quality of the procedure. So, for example, the more expensive the equipment used in the solarium, the less harm it can do to your health. The more often disinfection is carried out in the solarium, the safer to take sun baths in it. And also be sure to observe hygiene requirements, such as: the use of sunglasses, protective pads on the nipples, special cosmetics for tanning in a solarium.

Solarium cosmetics

To get a tan in a solarium, cosmetics manufacturers produce several lines of products:

  • cream for beginners – to get a basic tan;
  • tanning booster for those who already have a tan;
  • cream for a more persistent tan – maximizer;
  • prolongers – means that fix the tan obtained in a solarium and take care of the skin after sunburn;

Cosmetics for tanning in a solarium do not contain sun filters. But it should be remembered that the main disadvantage of tanning is dryness, which leads to irritation and flaking of the skin. Therefore, tanning creams and lotions contain additives that nourish and moisturize the skin. The cosmetics also contain antioxidants that prevent ozone and free radicals from damaging the skin that are formed in the atmosphere of a solarium under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. And always, before using tanning cosmetics, check yourself for a possible allergic reaction.

There are no fundamental differences between natural tanning and tanning in a solarium. The process of skin pigmentation develops in exactly the same way. It does not matter whether you tan in a solarium or on the beach, in both cases the result will be the same – the natural process of tanning the skin. Tanning from a tanning bed lasts as long as a naturally produced tan. So, without contraindications and restrictions, feel free to use this product of technical progress. Stay beautiful always and in spite of everything!
